Glendon College in Toronto is looking for a research assistant from January 2025 to September 2025 to work on the York University Research Chair on Franco-Aboriginal Relations in the Americas. The contract may be extended the following year.
The candidate must be enrolled in a doctoral or master’s program at a Canadian university in January 2025, preferably in Ontario or Quebec, and must be interested in the Franco-Aboriginal past. Compensation will be $35 per hour, plus benefits. The candidate will be expected to work forty hours per month, with occasional travel. Tasks will include organizing a study day, proofreading scientific contributions, revising a monograph, preparing a bibliography, updating a website and, possibly, researching and writing a scientific article related to the Chair’s work.
The successful candidate must be fluent in French and have a very good knowledge of English. Sensitivity to issues related to the Indigenous past and familiarity with the New France corpus, as well as experience as a reviser, will be assets. Although the position is open to all, the selection committee strongly encourages candidates from First Nations or Métis communities to apply. Much of the work can be done remotely, although the candidate must occasionally be able to travel to Quebec or Ontario.
CVs of interested candidates, together with a covering letter and the names of two referees, should be sent to Marie-Christine Pioffet at the following e-mail address: mpioffet@yorku.ca before January 6, 2025.
