Ce colloque souhaite engager une discussion autour d’une thématique singulière – le portrait – dans une perspective transhistorique, transdisciplinaire et transmédiale, ceci afin de réfléchir collectivement à sa définition et aux problématiques soulevées par son corpus aux origines séculaires. Il s’agira d’étudier les nombreuses théories et formes de la pratique portraitiste et d’en mesurer les enjeux épistémologiques, esthétiques, sociaux, politiques et médiatiques sur le temps long, sans contrainte temporelle ou géographique.

The Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies set up a YouTube channel in 2022. In the wake of our new Online Speaker Series, we plan to add videos to this channel on a regular basis, to present research from our members, as well as discussions and debates that may be of interest for researchers and the public at large.

The next International Seminar for Early-Career Scholars, organized annually by the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ISECS), will take place in Lyon, France, from June 30 to July 4 2025. The theme of the Seminar will be "The Eighteenth Century and Possible Worlds".

The Robert and Moira Sansom Ideas Foundation was established in 2013 with the intention to create a Graduate Student Scholarship for Studies in the History of Ideas, granting $10,000 each year in support of the work of the recipient. The scholarship is open to graduate students, who are or will be studying at a university in Canada, whose work relates to the History of Ideas.

Ce colloque rassemble des spécialistes de la correspondance de l’époque moderne afin d’étudier les éditions de lettres entre le XVIe et le XVIIIe siècle. D’Érasme à Voltaire, la période moderne est rythmée par des projets éditoriaux dédiés à l’impression de lettres de personnalités célèbres. Le colloque souhaite donc étudier cette pratique éditoriale tout en mettant en valeur les spécificités de chaque siècle et de chaque domaine d’activité : lettres savantes, lettres diplomatiques, lettres politiques, lettres personnelles, fictives, etc.
